Q: Is spray foam insulation safe after it cures?

Our favorite question. Answer: Spray foam is the only insulation material that is created directly at the job site by combining two chemical components. To produce a stable, inert material, those components must be mixed at a precise 1:1 ratio by volume. That precision is why equipment matters. At Cloud9 Spray Foam, we use advanced computer-controlled equipment to monitor and regulate the chemical mixing process in real time during installation. This technology brings factory-level process control to the job site — similar to the quality-control systems used in factories that produce many of the plastics that surround us. All production data is recorded and uploaded to secure third-party servers in real time, giving our customers clear documentation and peace of mind that your spray foam was installed with the proper chemical ratio and curing conditions.

Answer: Closed-cell spray foam is denser, more rigid, and commonly used where higher R-value, air sealing and moisture resistance are important. Open-cell spray foam is softer and often used for rooflines, attics, walls and areas where air sealing and sound absorption are priorities. Open-cell spray foam is a considerably cheaper choice. Answer: It depends on the project. Closed-cell foam is usually better for crawl spaces, rim joists, basements and areas where moisture resistance or higher R-value per inch is needed. Open-cell foam can be a good choice for rooflines, attics and sound-sensitive applications. Open Cell spray foam is notably cheaper, so if the insulating area is dry and there is sufficient space to apply open-cell spray foam it is a preferred choice. Attics, floors over garages and mid-floors that need to be soundproofed are just a few of many good applications for open-cell spray foam. We will be happy to provide an advice at no charge.

Re-entry timing depends on the product, ventilation, job size and site conditions. We review this with the customer before the project. But a good rule of thumb for occuped homes, 24 hours after we stop spraying.
